Boys Varsity Basketball comes back in the fourth quarter for their second league win of the season

Boys Varsity Basketball (7-6 overall, 2-1 league)

de Toledo 59 - Oakwood 56

The Jaguars were down by 11 points to the Gorillas in the fourth quarter before going on an inspired run to beat them by three points. Aidan Waldman played a splendidly efficient game, scoring 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 2-point range. Waldman cut to the hoop for high-percentage shots with four of his five makes coming from inside the paint. Liam Evenhaim, who is leading all Jewish high school basketball players in scoring (averaging 23.5 points per game -- as of January 13), will increase that average with his 26-point effort against Oakwood. Evenhaim was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line, indicative of de Toledo’s stellar 83% shooting from the charity strike for the game. Evenhaim gathered in 12 rebounds to add another double-double to his tally and two blocks.

Girls Varsity Basketball (1-14 overall, 0-7 league)

de Toledo 63 - Oakwood 8

The Girls Varsity Basketball team, coming off of their first win of the season against Palmdale Aerospace Academy, could not find the magic from that win against a consistently tough Oakwood side. The girls did, however, play with an immense amount of energy, which showed in their ability to break down the press that Oakwood uses so often. The team was able to escape the traps midcourt to set up their base offense and to attack the basket.

Boys Varsity Soccer (1-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 league)

de Toledo 1 - Oakwood 3

de Toledo dropped their second straight 1-3 defeat, this time to Oakwood. The Jaguars took the early lead with Julian Gancman converting on a shot in the opening minutes of the game. The team did not bring that same intensity from thereon out and paid the price with a couple of defensive lapses that led to goals. Even in losses, de Toledo has looked competitive, as the margin of error has been narrow.

Girls Varsity Soccer (5-4 overall, 1-3 league)

de Toledo 0 - Archer 4

The Jaguars lost their first match of the season against Archer by a four-goal margin. The game was played on a sopping turf field, as the rain beamed on the players, adding to their frustration. Archer, who is atop of the league standings, asserted themselves early on on their homefield at Santa Monica College. Jessie Cohan was noted for her perseverance in a tough game.

Boys JV Basketball (1-8 overall)

de Toledo 63 - Oakwood 43

Boys F/S Basketball (0-8 overall) (Wednesday Game)

de Toledo 34 - AGBU 67

Jordan Stein - 16 points
Gavi Sela - 8 points
