Boys Varsity Baseball drops first game of the season, 3-5

Boys Varsity Baseball (2-1 overall)

de Toledo 3 - Chadwick 5

The Jaguars took their first loss of the season against Chadwick, 3-5, with the game settled in what turned out to be the decisive fourth inning. de Toledo struck first in the top of the second inning after Sam Koeppel stole second base and then stole third. As Koeppel was stealing third, Chadwick’s third baseman committed an error, allowing Koeppel to advance home. Chadwick tied it up in the bottom of the inning off a wild pitch by Koeppel. Chadwick landed their deepest cut in the fourth inning, scoring three of their five total runs to widen the disparity to a four-run gap. The Jaguars climbed back into the game in the fifth frame through an Ethan Stubington single that brought two home. The two runs in the fifth were not enough for the team to make up the lead, and the team did not score in either of the following two innings.
Koeppel got his first start of the season, pitching 3.2 innings and letting up three hits and five runs (four unearned) to go along with five strikeouts. Koeppel was throwing heaters, but at times was a bit errant, accounting for three wild pitches. Max Turndorf and Omri Alon relieved Koeppel with the latter hanging around for two innings and allowing only one hit and no runs.
