Boys Varsity Baseball avenges Tuesday's loss against Pacifica Christian; wins heavily 15-4

Boys Varsity Baseball (6-2 overall, 3-1 league)

de Toledo 15 - Pacifica Christian 4

After dropping the first game against Pacifica Christian by a 3-0 score on Tuesday, de Toledo bounced back with a 15-4 drubbing to cement their status as elite contenders for the league championship. Down by one entering the top of the third, the Jaguar bats reanimated, providing three runs in the half inning. Sam Koeppel and Jared Browne started the inning with two straight singles, before Ethan Stubington (1-2, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB) came to the plate and drove both of them in on a line drive to center field. Jesse Spencer then laid down a bunt to advance Stubington to third, however, the first baseman committed an error, which gave Stubington time to reach home for a 3-1 lead. Pacifica Christian tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, but the Jaguars had all of the answers for the Seawolves in the top of the fifth. Omri Alon opened the inning with an electrifying triple and subsequently came home on Adam Neinstein’s (2-5, 1 R, 2 RBI) single to left field. The next two batters, Koeppel and Browne, reached base on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively, which loaded the bases for Stubington, who promptly walked in a run. With the bases still jacked, Adam Schreiber (1-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) smoked a ground ball to the shortstop who could not handle the heat on the ball, allowing Koeppel to score from third. The pitcher then threw a wild pitch to score Browne during Carson Kirshbaum’ at-bat, in which Kirshbaum ended up walking to force the bases loaded. Aidan Schenck (2-4, 2 R, 4 RBI) then hit a dagger to left field for a double that scored Stubington and Schreiber for a six-run lead. Later in the inning, Neinstein singled in Schenck to put de Toledo up 10-3. The Jaguars scored five more runs in the top of the sixth, including two of those runs coming off of another double by Schenck.

Jacob Willinger took the mound for the Jaguars and pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering six hits and two earned runs and striking out five batters. When Willinger was on, he was on, getting 14 of the Pacifica Christian batters out in less than three pitches.

Boys Varsity Volleyball (1-3 overall, 1-1 league)

de Toledo 0 - Palmdale Aerospace Academy 3 (21-25, 21-25, 19-25)

de Toledo went up against a formidable squad in Palmdale Aerospace Academy, dropping three close sets that fell in their opponent’s favor. The teams played evenly through the three sets, but it was timely service runs that gave Palmdale the upper hand, including a seven-point run in the final set.
