Jaguars Win Their Third Straight Game

de Toledo defeats Ribet Academy for a second time in a week's span

Boys Varsity Flag Football (5-6)

de Toledo 26 - Ribet Academy 14

The Jaguars are riding a three-game winning streak, beating Ribet Academy in back-to-back games to inch towards an even record and a spot in the playoffs. de Toledo held the reins throughout the game, staking a 7-0 lead at the half, after Jake Silver found an opening in the line for a one-yard touchdown. Silver’s score was set up by a long fourth-down throw for 30 yards from Jesse Spencer to Yarden Leshem. Leshem scored the second touchdown for de Toledo in the third quarter as Spencer scrambled in the pocket and lobbed it up to where only the 6’5” receiver would be able to catch it, giving the Jaguars a two-score lead going into the final quarter. Ribet struck next on a 60-yard scamper off a dump pass, but de Toledo countered that attack with a 25-yard touchdown pass of their own to Evan Rose on the outside, as the safety bit on the crossing route and the corner stayed in zone coverage. The Jaguars added another score in the middle of the fourth when Andrew Gussman ran a streak passed his man in off coverage and snatched the ball on its way down in the back of the end zone.

The defense matched the offense’s acumen with two interceptions by Yoni Bengal and Yarden Leshem. Bengal’s interception came off of what would typically be a fumble in standard football, but since all balls that hit the ground are dead in flag football, it was considered an interception. After catching the ball, the Ribet running back lost control of it during his run, and the ball squirted out and into the arms of a ready Bengal, who picked off Ribet twice in their previous matchup.
