de Toledo escaped a first-round tussle by the beach against Coastal Christian, advancing to the 2nd Round of the 5AA Playoffs by a single basket. The Jaguars held the lead the entire game, however, the Conquerors shrunk the lead with each quarter, reducing a first quarter deficit of 9 points down to 2 points at the final buzzer. de Toledo stymied the Coastal Christian offense in the first quarter with a full-court press that forced the Conquerors into making mistake after mistake. Once Coastal Christian was able to break the press, they started to cut into de Toledo’s lead. The Jaguars held on and put the final touches on the game by tying up Coastal Christian with the possession arrow in their favor.
Jonah D. ‘20 came up with timely baskets, including two late free throws to widen the margin to 4 points with under a minute, to seal the victory. Jonah ended the game with a team-leading 23 points and 13 rebounds. Dorel C. ‘20, who scored 14 points, hit two late three-pointers that added a much needed cushion to de Toledo’s lead towards the end of the game. Yarden L. ‘20 continued his strong play from the last game against AGBU by putting up 12 points and 10 boards, while manning the paint for the Jaguars.
de Toledo will face Bishop Diego in the 5AA Playoffs 2nd Round on Saturday night.
