Back-to-Back Wins for de Toledo Baseball

Jaguars win a tight battle, 3-1

de Toledo 3 - Heritage Christian 1

de Toledo outlasted Heritage Christian in a tight battle to earn their second win in as many days. It was a highly-contested pitchers’ duel, as the two teams combined for a total of 5 hits.

The Jaguars broke through in the 5th inning with 3 runs that proved to distance themselves just enough from the Warriors. After opening the inning with two straight outs, Max T. ‘21 represented the first baserunner of the inning with a walk. During the next at-bat, Max stole second to put himself into scoring position. Jesse S. ‘22, likewise, was walked to put men on 1st and 2nd. 3-hole hitter, Jacob W. ‘21, struck the decisive blow with a smacker to right field that brought Max and Jesse home for the 2-0 lead. Jacob then scored the final run of the inning, and the day, on a wild pitch.

Ethan S. ‘21 shined on the mound with an omnipresent focus that got him through 4 superlative innings. Ethan made it through the start unscratched, while punching out 9 hitters. He seldomly let any Warriors on base, giving up only 1 hit and 1 walk. Jacob W. ‘21 picked it up in the 5th inning and needed to grind one out in the 6th when the first two batters reached base on a dropped 3rd strike and a hit by pitch. The Warriors got their first run of the game off of a fielder's choice and then followed with a single to left field to put baserunners on 1st and 2nd. Jacob bounced back from there with a crucial strikeout for the 2nd out. That was followed by one of the finest defensive plays of the day, as Ethan snagged a ball in the dirt while adeptly keeping his foot on the bag to register the final out of the inning and to preserve the 2-run win.
