  • English Teacher

    de Toledo High School, a vibrant and innovative independent high school, is looking for a dynamic English teacher who has a deep knowledge of and passion for literature and the writing process. We are seeking candidates with experience in teaching at all levels (at-level, honors, and AP).
    Responsibilities:

    Teach four (4) core English classes

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Enthusiasm for mission and vision of de Toledo High School and strong commitment to embrace and promote its culture

    • 3+ years as a High School level teacher

    Experience:

    • Working with students of varying academic abilities

    • Creating, scaffolding, and differentiating curriculum

    • Collaborating with people within department and in other departments

    • Knowledge of:

      • English grammatical concepts
      • Recursive writing process
      • Canonical literature and contemporary fiction, nonfiction, and young adult fiction
      • Social media and 21st century technology applications for classroom learning

    Background:

    Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000 with great benefits including 100% employer paid medical and dental, plus 50% for 1 dependent; vision; an annual and generous 403(b) match; all Federal holidays plus up to 12 Jewish Holy Days paid per year.

  • Hebrew Department Chair

    Location: de Toledo High School, West Hills, CA

    Position Type: Full-Time, Effective August 2026

    de Toledo High School, a vibrant and innovative independent Jewish High school, seeks a visionary and dynamic Hebrew Department Chair. We are looking for an educator with a deep passion for Hebrew language acquisition and the leadership skills to inspire both students and faculty. As the Department Chair, you will shape the future of our Hebrew program, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of our school’s mission to foster Jewish identity and academic excellence.
     
    Position Overview
    The Hebrew Department Chair is responsible for leading the Hebrew language program, ensuring instructional excellence, mentoring faculty, and advancing a student-centered, proficiency-based curriculum aligned with ACTFL standards.  This role combines classroom teaching with departmental leadership and collaboration with school administration.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Teach up to four Hebrew classes across all proficiency levels
    • Provide instructional leadership for the Hebrew Department, including curriculum development, scope and sequence alignment, and implementation of ACTFL standard
    • Plan and lead regular department meetings to foster collaboration, instructional coherence, and professional growth
    • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations, provide feedback, and support teacher development and evaluation
    • Evaluate and place incoming students in appropriate Hebrew proficiency levels
    • Collaborate with school leadership on academic planning, scheduling, and program development
    • Promote best practices in language acquisition, differentiation, and student-centered instruction
    • Communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, and administration
    • Integrate appropriate educational technology to enhance teaching and learning

    Qualifications & Requirements
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a Jewish Day School or similar environment (High School/Middle School level).
    • Language Proficiency: Native Hebrew speaker with exceptional command of both written and spoken Hebrew.
    • Pedagogical Expertise: Thorough familiarity with ACTFL standards, proficiency-based grading, and language acquisition theories.
    • Tech Savvy: Proficient in 21st-century classroom technology and digital learning platforms.
    • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with administration, parents, and the broader school community.
    Must be authorized to work in the United States.
    Salary Range: $85,000--$100,000 DOE
