Five de Toledo Student-Athletes Sign College Letters of Intent
de Toledo High School is proud to announce that five of its seniors have officially signed athletic letters of intent to bring their talents to the college level starting in Fall 2023.
"As a former coach and proud Head of School, I am always impressed by the determination and grit of our student-athletes,” said Mark Shpall, de Toledo’s head of school. “Having five seniors sign college letters of intent this year – including three D1 offers – is an exciting validation of how de Toledo students embrace our school values in their pursuit of both academic excellence and co-curricular passions.”
These five student-athletes are:
Molly Neinstein - Gymnastics (University of North Carolina)
Molly is a USAG Women's Developmental Program Level 10 Gymnast
Western National Champion on vault; silver medalist on floor and silver in the All-Around at Western National Championships
Represented the United States at the Pan American Maccabi Games in Mexico City. Won gold in All-Around, vault and floor; silver on uneven bars
Bronze medals on bars, beam, and all around at Vegas Fame Stars
Earned silver medals on vault and floor; bronze in the All-Around at Waller's Heart of a Champion
After a potentially career ending injury, Molly worked her way back to sport after spinal fusion surgery in 2021
Molly will be joining the UNC Tar Heels gymnastics team which competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference
Willow Gretsch - Tennis (University of Colorado-Boulder)
In 2023, Willow was the Independence League Singles Champion, becoming the first league champion in de Toledo Tennis program history
At the 2023 Independence League Tournament, Willow won every set of the tournament
During her four-year de Toledo career, Willow has not once dropped a set, an astonishing feat considering the hundred-plus matches she played
Willow even once earned a “golden set”, not losing a single point in a set during a league match
Zach Smollin - Gymnastics (University of Minnesota)
Zach is a USAG Men’s Level 10 Gymnast who started competing in Region 1 at the age of five
Over the course of his 14-year career, he has won multiple state titles on floor exercise, high bar, parallel bars, and vault
Four-Time USAG Academic All-American
Eight-Time SCMGA All-Star Team Member
Regional All-Around Champion
Seven-Time Region 1 Elite Team Member
Four-Time National Future Stars Qualifier
2017 Jr. National Championship Team Member
2018 Jr. National Champion bronze medal on high bar, silver in the All-Around
2022 Jr. National Champion bronze for floor exercise
2022 Maccabiah Games Team USA Captain, gold medal floor exercise, gold medal Team USA
Zach will be continuing his gymnastics career in the Big-10 competing for Minnesota Gymnastics, with hopes of making the Senior US National Team
Zachary Grundfest - Baseball (Lasell University in Newton, MA)
In his senior season at de Toledo, Zach enjoyed a .345 on-base percentage
Ryan Schenck - Baseball (Lasell University in Newton, MA)
In his senior season at de Toledo, Ryan batted .319, with a .407 on-base percentage
