de Toledo goes 3-0 on the day as Flag Football, Girls Varsity Tennis, and Girls Varsity Volleyball all come away with victories

Flag Football (9-0 league)

de Toledo 27- Shalhevet 12

de Toledo’s seniors put on a show at their final home game of their scholastic career, ripping through the Firehawks defense for four touchdowns. The Jaguars implemented an all-senior starting lineup for the opening drives of the game and the seniors did not let the coaches down, as Sam Koeppel threw a dime to Wyatt Lefkowitz, who burned the corner and the secondary help for a 70-yard plus touchdown. Koeppel tallied the second touchdown on a designed quarterback run up the middle from 15 yards out on 3rd and Goal. Lefkowitz then put up his second score of the day, this time as a running back, on a direct snap, as he cut through the three level of the defense for a 50-yard plus scamper. The put-away touchdown was Koeppel finding Evan Rose down the sideline for a 60-yard bomb for Rose’s team-leading fifth receiving touchdown.

The Jaguar defense held its own, forcing a typically controlled quarterback into making questionable decisions. The pressure put up front by Nadiv Lev and Joseph Seidel stifled any big plays by the Shalhevet offense, as the two of them were in the backfield before plays could be executed. Seidel ended the day with two sacks, two tackles for loss, and a safety, while Lev put up four sacks and four tackles for loss. The secondary, pressing the receivers, allowed more time for the defensive line to get to the quarterback for sacks. Yarden Leshem, as the team’s safety, covered a large swath of ground, swatting away passes and picking off an interception, his 13th on the year.

Girls Varsity Tennis (3-4 overall, 3-1 league)

de Toledo 10 - AGBU 8

In a season that has been dominated by the de Toledo singles players, it was the doubles players on this day that gave the Jaguars the edge against the Titans with a 7-2 record. Top doubles team Sophie Harris/Lilli Wiviott swept AGBU, inching past AGBU’s #1 doubles team 7-5 before ridding of the #2 and #3 team, 6-2 and 6-0. The other two doubles teams of Daniella Buchbut/Jordan Mamalakis and Rose Lieblein/Maddy Lazarow lost their match against the Titans #1 doubles team, but both disposed of AGBU’s two other doubles teams. #1 singles player Rebecca Atlas led the singles player with a 2-1 record, dropping her match against the #1 player and winning the other two singles matches by a 6-1 and 6-0 margin.
