The current Boys Varsity Basketball squad took the first annual Boys Varsity Basketball Alumni Game in demanding fashion over the Alumni team with a fourth-quarter runaway. The Jaguars doubled their opponent on the scoreboard in the final quarter by a considerable 24-12 margin, which padded an already dominant second-half showing that saw the Jaguars score 39 to the Alumni’s 18 points. The Alumni started the game on a 7-2 run, perhaps being inspired by reliving their glory days on the hardwood for one more night. Coach Castro wisely called a timeout after the run, just 45 seconds into the game, which turned the tide for the Jaguars. From that point forward, the game was at best played evenly among the teams, but more often than not, it was the Jaguars who were making a splash.
Aidan Waldman got the Jaguars rolling after the timeout, putting up seven points in the first quarter, including two three-pointers from the corner. The rest of the team seemed to pick up steam from there, as Aidan Nussbaum came off of the bench for a team-leading 16 points. The bench was a pivotal asset for Coach Castro, as the subs accounted for 56% of the team’s scoring (39 of 70). Liam Evenhaim followed Nussbaum on the tally board with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jack Bromberg hit his patented three-point shot thrice on the night, all in the second quarter, for nine points. Ethan Stubington confidently sunk shots for eight points, while Mikey Altschul soared above the trees, climbing past the six-footers for four rebounds to join his six steals and four assists.
