Boys Varsity Basketball finishes in fourth place at the Milken Tournament after a gut-wrenching one-point loss

Boys Varsity Basketball (2-3 overall)

de Toledo 47 - Holy Martyrs 48 (Milken Tournament Day 4)

The Jaguars finished the Milken Tournament in fourth place with a heart-breaking one-point loss, despite making a late push -- a patented move by the team in particular during this tournament. The hump that de Toledo could not surpass came at the free throw line, as the team converted 8-of-14 chances from the line. On most nights, that conversion rate would not douse the hopes of a victory, but in such as close match, it shifted the game towards Holy Martyr’s favor. Liam Evenhaim, once again, tallied a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. Evenhaim also upstaged his opponents on the defensive end with five rejections. Aidan Waldman was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and finished the game with 8 points. Dylan Esulin matched Waldman’s point total by crashing around the hoop and swiped four passes from the Armens.

Boys Varsity Soccer (0-1-1 overall)

de Toledo 1 - St. Bonaventure 5

The rain fell heavily as the opening whistle blew, providing a wet backdrop for the majority of the first half. The Jaguars fought diligently in the first, but the daunting environment paired with some mental lapses and errors, put them into a 4-1 hole going into the second. Yahav Arviv’s goal in the first was the bright light among the scattered showers, as he beat the keeper as the goalie attempted to close his angle down. The Jaguars were able to limit the Seraphs attack in the second half, only allowing one goal. Bernie Lavender was a large reason for the second half improvement, as he manned between the post during the latter half. Eli Hyman, Ben Hitterer, Ryan Koeppel, and Josh Freson were also stalwarts in the second half who contributed to the betterment of the team.

Girls Varsity Basketball (0-4 overall, 0-2 in league)

de Toledo 25 - Faith Baptist 58

de Toledo travelled down the road to face Faith Baptist in the clash for West Hills. The Jaguars put up a season-best 25 points, a sign of the continued improvement that the coaches have seen on a day-to-day basis. Despite not being able to outplay the Contenders, the team had multiple players step up their games, leading to the best game of the early season for the Jaguars. Lulu Marsh attacked the basket and shot well from deep, sinking two big three-pointers. Maia Chameides remained a rock in the middle, wiping boards like a teacher teaching two weeks of material in one day. Lauren Gabay is starting to become a trusted voice on the team with her vocal encouragement and her constant defensive effort. Sarah Goldstein continues to sneakily glide by people for steals on her way to open drives. Hannah Fahuna scored her first points of the season to get on the board.

Noah Orshansky - 7 points
