de Toledo 20 - AGBU 50

The Jaguars showed a marked improvement in their second game against AGBU this season, doubling their point total from 10 to 20 points. The two teams faced off in the last match of the Milken Girls Basketball Classic last Thursday, in a game that was very much in the Titans’ hands. de Toledo came into this game as the aggressor, as they were adamant to get to the hole for easy looks and for quick dishes to open shooters below the perimeter. The team was able to draw more fouls than usual in employing this offensive tactic, as it forced the opponent to panic and flail their arms in an attempt of thwarting the shots. Lulu Marsh, in particular, thrived in this offense, as she drove to the paint for 16 hard-earned points. Maia Chameides accounted for de Toledo’s remaining points, taking advantage of her length down low. AGBU’s offense, though, was still reminiscent of its offense during the last game, as the Titans were able to sneak past the Jaguar defenders for high-percentage shots.

Boys Varsity Basketball (3-5 overall)

de Toledo 59 - Channel Islands 66

The team travelled seaside to take on a first-time opponent in Channel Island High School in Oxnard in a close seven-point loss. Liam Evenhaim topped the Jaguars with 19 points, making a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Four of Evenhaim’s five field goals made came from distance, giving him 12 points from beyond the arc. Dylan Esulin dropped a double-double on Channel Islands with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Esulin was equally as effective on the glass on the offensive as he was on the defensive end with five offensive boards and seven defensive ones. Aidan Waldman was second in scoring with 14 points and Jack Bromberg was the only other Jaguar in double figures with 10 points.

Girls Varsity Soccer (4-2 overall, 0-1 league)

de Toledo 1 - Milken 2

de Toledo faced a familiar opponent in Milken in their first league match of the season, coming up short by a goal. The Jaguars looked to capitalize on open looks during breakaways, but they could not finish consistently enough to catch up to the Wildcats. Maya Hayun scored the sole goal for the Jaguars, on a pass from Tatiana Cait, which gives her 11 on the season. Leila Wazana was highlighted by her coaches for pushing the team to get back into the game once Milken took the lead in the second half.
