Emily Holden: Saddle Seat Equestrian Extraordinaire

Emily Holden claims first in the Varsity Saddle Seat competition, carrying over from last season's top finish

Saddle Seat and Western School League of Greater Los Angeles Meet #1

Senior Emily Holden finished last year on top of the Saddle Seat standings in the Saddle Seat and Western School League of Greater Los Angeles. In her first meet of the year, the defending champ reigned supreme, garnering first place in the Varsity Saddle Seat Equitation and Pleasure. In general, Saddle Seat is focused on a horse’s flair, a demonstration of their high action. The Saddle Seat Equitation requires the rider to make the riding look as effortless as possible, while maintaining their position on the horse in a graceful pose. The Pleasure class pays keen attention to the horse’s composure, manners, and smoothness, as opposed to their action. The primary difference is that the Equitation class evaluates the rider, while the Pleasure class evaluates the horse. Holden and her horse both excelled at the first meet, setting up high expectations for the second meet on April 14.
