Boys Varsity Baseball drops the first of two against Buckley, 3-0

Boys Varsity Baseball (6-3 overall, 3-2 league)

de Toledo 0 - Buckley 3

The Jaguars faced their toughest competition of the season on Tuesday against reigning league champion Buckley in a close 3-0 loss. The Griffins scored two runs in the first inning off of Ethan Stubington, but could not carry that offensive performance over to the remainder of the game. Stubington settled down after the first, ridding of 14 of Buckley’s batters in fewer than three pitches. The Jaguar bats, though, were silenced by two pitchers, who each gave up a single hit. Carson Kirshbaum and Jacob Willinger were the only Jaguars to reach first base via a hit -- the other baserunners reached on walks, including Sam Koeppel’s three freebies. The Buckley pitchers did walk six de Toledo batters, but when push came to shove, they were able to get the Jaguars out, even when de Toledo had runners in scoring position. The Jaguars will look to settle the score in Thursday’s match that can very well decide the top of the standings.
