Boys Varsity Soccer bounces back with a 3-1 win

Boys Varsity Soccer (2-4-1 overall, 2-2-0 league)

de Toledo 3 - Milken 1

de Toledo flipped the script from their last game, similarly taking an early lead in the game, but this time being able to carry that momentum through its duration. The team grinded it out for all 80 minutes of the game and played composed beautiful soccer. Julian Gancman, who scored in his previous game, put up a hat trick. Gancman was supported by a midfield that fed balls up front to him and by a defense that turned possessions over to the Jaguars for quick counters. Dylan Benson, the team’s goalkeeper, put together his best showing of the season with at least a dozen saves. The performance between the pipes solidified de Toledo’s victory in a full-team effort.

Girls Varsity Soccer (5-4-1 overall, 1-3-1 league)

de Toledo 1 - Milken 1

The Jaguars marked their first tie game of the season against a familiar opponent in Milken. The two teams could not separate from one another, playing an even style of soccer throughout the game. Chelsey Silverman stood out for her consistent play.

Boys Varsity Basketball (8-6 overall, 3-1 league)

de Toledo 71 - Glendale Adventist 23

de Toledo’s suffocating defense frazzled Glendale Adventist, which led the Jaguars to a big win. The game was close in the middle of the first quarter at 11-12, but then de Toledo put on the press and the gap began to widen. The pressure led to a whopping 28 steals by the team -- five each by Aidan Nussbaum and Dorel Cohen. The team turned the tight defense into quick open looks on offense, shooting 50% from the field, including 38% from 3-point range. Liam Evenhaim continued his offensive hot streak, scoring 25 points from all spots on the court. Evenhaim has now scored 25+ points in five consecutive matches, which will certainly add to his leading national scoring average in Jewish Hoops America. Jack Bromberg’s silky shot from distance proved to be a weapon, as 4-of-7 three-pointers tickled the twine for 12 points. Bromberg sat at the wing and the corner, waiting for cutters to dish it to his preferred spots, and he did not let them down.

Girls Varsity Basketball (1-15 overall, 0-8 league)

de Toledo 18 - Glendale Adventist 32

In their closest league game to date, one can tell that the team’s defense and ball movement have greatly improved from day one. The Jaguars are getting offensive chances that they were not previously converting early in the season. Lulu Marsh continues to attack the hoop, scoring a team-leading eight points. Lauren Gabay supported the offensive effort by grabbing boards and scoring put backs for six points. Maia Chameides was highlighted by the coaches for her help defense that stifled Glendale Adventist’s offensive capacity.
