Alumni Voices: Ann Fogler '11

Let's see what Ann Fogler has been up to since graduating from NCJHS/dTHS!

Q: What have you been doing since you graduated New Community Jewish High School/de Toledo High School?
A: I went to undergrad at Dickinson College in PA, where I majored in music and minored in English. I studied abroad in Italy, and I put on two solo classical recitals as part of my degree requirement. I also became fluent in Italian and became even more proficient in Hebrew (Dickinson is great for learning different languages). From there, I went to The Boston Conservatory where I received my masters in vocal performance. I am currently working as a freelance musician for companies all around Boston, and I spent two consecutive summers working for Central City Opera in CO as a young artist. I just performed a huge role with Boston Opera Collaborative.

Q: Can you describe your college experience?
A: I had a great college experience. I felt challenged at many moments, but I learned a lot about myself regarding what I really wanted out of life. I am grateful for each course I took and all of the wonderful people I met, especially my husband! I find that my liberal arts education provided me with a solid background for my profession, my livelihood, and my ability to take on difficult challenges in my life.

Q: How was your experience at NCJHS/dTHS? Were there any classes, teachers, activities or programs that impacted you?
A: NCJHS/dTHS seems like centuries ago, but it’s only been a decade! At NCJHS/dTHS I discovered the core of who I was. I graduated high school with an idea of what I wanted to study and the kind of life I want to build. I found that the academic foundation NCJHS/dTHS provided me with gave me a good base to grow and thrive as a college student.

Q: What is an important message you learned at NCJHS/dTHS?
A: If I dedicate myself to work hard and focus, I can achieve anything. I am still as fearless as I was at 17, only more grounded.

Q: If you were speaking to a current dTHS student, what advice would you give?
A: Be totally honest with yourself! Always remember what inspired you to make the choices you did, and allow yourself to take risks, but always make sure to consider all factors. You are your most reliable and resilient adviser.
