Boys Varsity Baseball crosses home plate 12 times on their way to a league victory against YULA

Boys Varsity Baseball (7-4 overall, 4-3 league)

de Toledo 12 - YULA 7

The Jaguar bats came to play, churning a tremendous 12 runs. The team’s offense was rolling, scoring runs in six of the seven innings played, including four in the top of the fifth. Jesse Spencer (4-5, 3 R, 5 SB) led off that inning with a bunt single, which was followed by a walk by Sam Koeppel (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB). Later in the inning, the Jaguars put on a double steal with Spencer taking third and Koeppel taking second. On the swipe, Spencer was able to round third base and touch home plate to give the Jaguars a one-run lead. Jared Browne (2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, SB, 3B) then drove Koeppel home for a 7-5 lead, and at the next at-bat, Carson Kirshbaum (2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, SB) singled Browne over to second. Browne and Kirshbaum, during Louie Shapiro’s (1-1, 2 RBI) plate appearance, both stole bases, putting both runners in scoring position. Shapiro promptly smacked a line drive to center field that brought both baserunners home for a comfortable four-run gap. YULA, however, got two runs back in the bottom of the frame to bring the score to 9-7. It wasn’t until the top of the seventh inning that the Jaguars continued their offensive swagger. Aidan Schenck opened the inning with a walk, and was later driven in by Adam Neinstein. Spencer then hit a single to advance Neinstein to third. Koeppel later singled to left field to bring in Neinstein and to advance Spencer to third base. During the next at-bat, Koeppel, on first base, intentionally got into a pickle, forcing the Panthers to focus on his baserunning. At the same time, Spencer was waiting for the perfect moment to launch himself towards home plate, and eventually did so, scoring the final run of the game.

Ethan Stubington took the bump for de Toledo and pitched a spectacular one-hitter over three innings pitched. Stubington struck out three batters, while not walking a single Panther. He retired each of the leadoff hitters that he faced in the three innings and he made quick work out of YULA, going 1-2-3 in two of the three innings.
