de Toledo Opens the Season with a Win

de Toledo 10 - Trinity Classical Academy 0

Boys Varsity Baseball (1-0 Overall)

de Toledo 10 - Trinity Classical Academy 0 (F/5)

The Jaguars opened the season with a bang, shutting out Trinity Classical Academy by a ten-run margin. de Toledo’s bats were particularly effective in the first and fourth inning, as they racked up four runs in each of those frames.

The Jaguars started the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff double by Max T. ‘21 (2-3, 2 R), followed by Ethan S. (2-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, 5 SB) reaching first base. With the two baserunners on, Jacob W. ‘21 (1-2, 1 R, 2 RBI) smacked a double past the first baseman, scoring both runners for the 2-0 early lead. Jared B. ‘20 (2-2, 3 R, 5 SB) then reached first base, advancing Jacob to third. The opposing pitcher committed an error at the following at-bat which allowed Jacob to reach home and Jared to advance two bases to third. Jonah K. ‘22 struck a single by the first baseman to score Brown for the final run of the inning.

The fourth was much of the same for de Toledo -- like the first inning, the Jaguars led off the inning with two baserunners. This time, Ethan hit a double to score the two runners and then later in the sequence, he stole third. Aidan S. ‘20 scored Ethan by hitting a sac groundout. The next three batters reached base to load the bases. Jared, who was on third base, managed to steal home for the fourth run of the inning, one of an inconceivable 14 stolen bases for the Jaguars on the day.

The pitching matched the offensive output, as Jacob W. stymied the opposition with a five-inning shutout. He allowed only seven hits on the day, while striking out eight batters. It was an efficient outing for him, as he disposed of nine batters in three pitches or fewer during an at-bat.
