Honoring Those Who Fight Against Hate

All of us in the de Toledo community are thrilled to share that current senior, Sophia S. (’24), has been awarded the prestigious Ellie Lainer Youth Leadership in Holocaust Education Award!

Sophia was just one of two local teens to receive this year’s honor, awarded for having spearheaded Holocaust awareness in our community through the David Labkovski Project (DLP), a nonprofit combatting antisemitism by teaching students about the Holocaust through art.

The project’s unique educational program, fusing history and art, is based on the life and art of renowned artist, David Labkovski (1906-1991). By engaging viewers with his paintings and sketches, the David Labkovski Project shares lessons of life, survival, tolerance, acceptance, and the importance of bearing witness to history.

Sophia will be honored at the DLP Project’s 8th Annual Scholar’s Event on March 17th at Skirball Center.
We are so proud of you, Sophia!  Mazal Tov!
